Ideas generation
In week one we need to generate the first idea and create a mind map with everything which comes to our mind. I started drawing just on the piece of paper as it was easier for me to put my thoughts on the paper. According to my brief a Cromwell logotype should include one of the following symbols:
1. American robin
2. Mountain laurel
3. Sperm whale
4. White oak
These are symbols of Connecticut.
Using a pencil and a piece of paper I started generating ideas and building a mind map.
I tried to draw each of these 4 symbols, make some notes, and combine symbols with the name Cromwell.
It helped me to look at my logo wider. Usually, I stick to the first idea, but this time I want to improve my skills and not stay with the first idea.
So, I drew more shapes, I took a texture from a white oak. The usage of a circle shape, a random shape gave me more options. I played with text and fonts, making it in one line, two lines, or even circle.
Using a whale shape, leave shape and flower. Tried to add a buildings to the logo. After that I decided to use a ma of Cromwell.
In the picture, you can see two maps (one - as a symbol of an old Cromwell) and the second (as a symbol of a new Cromwell). I realised that they together make a shield - which can be a symbol of a city which is safe from the fire and anything else. Putting the flower in the middle gave a symbol of hope. Also, I used a white oak leaf texture in the shield. The main creature is an American Robin which is a symbol of spring and reborn. According to the myth of three whales who are holding Earth, I decided to use it also in this meaning.I played with the place and size, trying to develop the idea. I used the whale inside the flower this time.
Experimenting with a shape, putting the whale rounded, the text underneath. Making the logo round, using the cut shapes and buildings inside. And a map underneath.
I also wanted to try to make symbols around the logotype.
In my next post, I will show digital ideas.
